Charlie's Angels Reboot Trailer Arrives, the Townsend Agency Goes Worldwide

Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska will be hitting a theater near you this November. And today we have the first trailer to share. It's got all the action you might have been hoping for, plus plenty of Kristen Stewart. The latest reboot, which comes after the original 1970s TV show, a couple of small screen reboots and McG's big screen incarnation, is taking the franchise in a different direction as the Townsend Agency goes worldwide.

Director Elizabeth Banks takes the helm as the next generation of fearless Charlie's Angels take flight. In Banks' bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally.

With the world's smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere. The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn.

The Townsend Agency goes worldwide in this latest movie to be based on the original 1976 television series of the same name, which was created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts and starred Jaclyn Smith, Farrah Fawcett, and Kate Jackson as the original team. That original series was a big hit back in the day running a total of 115 episodes over five seasons between 1976 and 1981. Meanwhile, this new version of Charlie's Angels is following on the heels of an attempted TV reboot back in 2011 which starred Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, and Ramon Rodriguez as John Bosley. Thirteen episodes of the 2011 reboot series were ordered, but after only airing four episodes, ABC canceled the series because of the low ratings. The eighth and final episode never even aired on ABC. Ouch. Tough act to follow.

But it's all good. After all, I think the public conscience seems to agree this movie is really more of a reboot of the McG-directed Charlie's Angels film from 2000 starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Bill Murray as John Bosley. That movie was perhaps the most successful take on the concept snagging $125.3 million in the states and $148.8 million in other territories, for a worldwide gross of $264.1 million worldwide against a budget of $93 million. That said, the movie was followed up in 2003 by a sequel called Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. The sequel switched out Bill Murray's Bosley for Bosley's half-brother Jimmy Bosley played by Bernie Mac and grossed $100.8 million in the states and $259.1 million worldwide on a budget of $120 million.

Anyways, on top of the above-mentioned cast of Kristen Stewart as Sabina Wilson, Naomi Scott as Elena Houghlin, and Ella Balinska as Jane Kano, this new movie features Noah Centineo as Langston, Luis Gerardo Méndez as The Saint, and Nat Faxon as Charlie along with Jonathan Tucker and Chris Pang. Oh, and let's not forget all the new Bosleys which will be played by Sam Claflin, Djimon Hounsou, Patrick Stewart, and Elizabeth Banks.

Elizabeth Banks directs this new Charlie's Angels movie from a screenplay she wrote based on a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn based on the characters created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts. Banks also produced the new version along with Max Handelman, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Doug Belgrad. It features music by Brian Tyler, cinematography by Bill Pope, and editing by Mary Jo Markey. Brownstone Productions, 2.0 Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and Flower Films are behind this reboot which Sony Pictures will distribute into a theater near you on November 15, 2019. This trailer comes to us from Sony Pictures Entertainment's official YouTube channel.

Charlie's Angels Reboot Teaser Arrives, Full Trailer Coming Tomorrow

We have our first little taste of the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot. And we do mean little. Sony Pictures has released a very brief teaser for this continuation of the franchise, which doesn't give us a whole lot, in itself. It does, however, promise that a trailer is coming down the pipeline in the very near future, which will give us our first proper look at the new Angels in action. For now though, we're still left to wonder what this is going to look like.

The teaser is just a symbol for the Townsend agency with a catchy little tune playing in the background. The word "uploading" appears below the symbol, which seems to be alluding to the forthcoming trailer. Beyond that, we've got very little to go on when it comes to what to expect from the trailer, as this doesn't provide us with even a shred of actual footage from Elizabeth Banks' take on the classic and iconic 70s series.

While it's promised that the trailer is coming tomorrow, we will be getting something a bit sooner. It was revealed that a "first look" will be showcased on Entertainment Tonight this evening. They didn't specifically say what that first look will consist of though.

Elizabeth Banks, who previously helmed Pitch Perfect 2, is in the director's chair for the reboot. The new cast includes Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Personal Shopper), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers, Aladdin) and newcomer Ella Balinska. A photo of the trio together was released online a while back, but we've still yet to actually see them in action. Previously, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore portrayed the trio in a pair of movies directed by McG in the early 2000s. Though, it sounds very much like this is going to be a pretty big departure from what we were provided with the better part of two decades ago.

Charlie's Angels centers on a trio of agents who are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend. In this new take on the classic, his security and investigative agency has expanded its reach internationally. With the world's smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women placed all over the world, there are now teams of Angels who are partnered up with multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs in any location necessary. Elizabeth Banks will be playing one of the new versions of Bosley, with Djimon Hounsou (Shazam) and Patrick Stewart (Logan) portraying two others.

Elizabeth Banks, in addition to starring in and directing the movie, also penned the screenplay. Needless to say, she's been busy. Banks was working from a story cooked up by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn. Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You) also star. Charlie's Angels, after having its release date shuffled around several times, is set to arrive in theaters on November 15. We'll be sure to bring the trailer your way tomorrow. In the meantime, be sure to check out the teaser video from the Charlie's Angels Twitter account below.
